Problem with connection after updating to 1.3.3

Postby stylejj » Wed Jun 29, 2011 4:35 am

Hi,

I encountered some problem after the recent updates (think it started after 1.3.2). Then today both me and my friend who uses the same program could not get any connection, no matter how long we were waiting for or how many servers we tried with.

Here's the log:
Jun 29 01:12:03: Viscosity 1.3.3 (1024)
Jun 29 01:12:03: Checking reachability status of connection...
Jun 29 01:12:03: Connection is reachable. Starting connection attempt.

Jun 29 01:15:05: TLS Error: TLS handshake failed

Could you please help us?

Thanks,

I'm likewise experiencing similar difficulties. For the last few days, I have simply been unable to connect to Viscosity, completely regardless of what servers I pick, and my friend is also still having difficulties of sorts.

Hi stylejj,

Judging from the log it appears you are unable to contact the server. Viscosity is trying properly, so most likely the server is offline, or you are being blocked from connecting. It's probably a coincidence that this happened around the same time you updated to a previous version of Viscosity. I'd recommend getting in touch with your VPN Provider to confirm the status of the OpenVPN server you are trying to connect to. If you are unsure who your VPN Provider is please see:

Hi GStayz,

It sounds like you are probably signed up with a VPN Service Provider, in which case I'd recommend getting in touch with them. If you are unsure who this is please see: http://www.thesparklabs.com/support/how ... _my_vpn_p/

If you happen to live in China we have been getting a number of reports of trouble connecting, so they've probably stepped up their blocking of some VPN Service Providers. If they happened to be blocking the servers you are trying to connect to you'll need to get in touch with your VPN Service Provider for a workaround.

Cheers,
James

Hi All,

I'd just like to confirm that this is indeed blocking by the Chinese government, rather than a problem with Viscosity 1.3.3 (there are no known issues with version 1.3.3). The Chinese government just happened to implement further blocking of VPN Service Providers around the same time of the 1.3.3 update.

Please note that Viscosity itself cannot be blocked - rather the VPN servers of certain VPN Service Providers are being blocked. Please see the following post: viewtopic.php?p=1394#p1394

James

Hi James,

Thanks for the replies. I also just heard of the news. Cannot believe it...

My server provider always fixed the problem. Just can't imagine how many people they will have to help out one by one.

Sorry, I know this is a very stupid question, but I can't remember exactly the procedure when I set up Viscosity. How do I find my service provider? Or, could you give me some examples? Is Witopia a service provider?
Yes, I'm in China too, and having difficulty.
