Using Viscosity with Tor

Postby tw34refs » Tue May 01, 2012 2:09 am

I've just started to use Viscosity, and it's been working quite well, but I was wondering how I might configure it to work with Tor. In particular, I would like to set it up so that I can connect to my vpn through Tor. If I simply run both Tor and Viscosity at the same time as it's configured now, my traffic seems to be routed through my vpn and then connects to Tor---I would like to do it the other way around, however. This would give one the strong anonymity of Tor without the well-known problems with untrusted Tor exit nodes, as traffic would be encrypted through the last exit node and be decrypted at my trusted vpn.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi tw34refs,

I'm afraid I've only ever played around with the Tor browser bundle, so I'm not exactly sure regarding the more technical aspects of its use. However I do know that it is capable as acting as a HTTP or SOCKS proxy server. You could then setup Viscosity to connect to it that way once Tor is running, and hence all traffic will flow through the VPN connection (which itself is being run through Tor). Viscosity's proxy options are available under the Proxy tab when editing your connection (you'd need to use a server address of 127.0.0.1 to connect to the local Tor proxy).

Cheers,
James
