BBC iPlayer detecting selective routing

Hi all. When I route all traffic through a UK VPN and access the BBC iPlayer it works with no issue. When I do selective routing of just the iPlayer, however, I get the message "this content doesn't seem to be working," and none of the channels will load.

It works fine with all of the IP checking sites I've tested. The one I route will give me a UK IP and all the others will give me my normal connection's IP. It does this with all of the UK IPs I have available. Is there anything I can try and do about this?

Great program, by the way!

Hi adelare,

The most likely explanation is that there are additional IP addresses or ranges that also need to be routed through the VPN connection. I'm afraid I have no experience with BBC's iPlayer, however you may be able to find a list of ranges online to check your current routes against.

As well as using your IP address to determine your location, websites can also get an idea of what country you are in using DNS geolocation. To get around this would should ensure that the DNS server you are using for lookups is listed in the UK as well, rather than using your normal DNS server.

If you're still stuck, your VPN Service Provider may have a better idea of what routes etc. you need to set up.

Cheers,
James

Hi there

I managed to make this work on my router by selectively routing the following addresses and address ranges over the VPN: hope it helps someone :)
23.3.13.178
23.3.13.146
178.79.192.0/18
212.58.224.0/19

Hi, I was wondering if this was still working for you. I can't get the selective routing to work for iplayer.

A few years later I went to set this up on a new machine and the settings above work perfectly still.
