Due to the recent news with regards to the Heartbleed bug, I feel like I have lost trust in the OpenSSL crypto library suite, perhaps until such time as a thorough audit of the code is done.

My question is this: would viscosity be happy if I were to recompile the openvpn binary using PolarSSL instead of OpenSSL?

And good job to sparklabs for releasing a bugfix quickly and promptly.

Cheers!

Hi cudiaco,

Yes, you should be able to replace the OpenVPN binary Viscosity uses with your own one complied with PolarSSL. You'll lose some OpenVPN features/functionality with PolarSSL as it doesn't provide everything OpenSSL provides, but for the most part this should be unnoticeable.

Viscosity's OpenVPN binary can be found at: /Library/ViscosityHelperTools/openvpn

Cheers,
James

James,

Thanks for following up. I had OpenVPN 2.3.3 compiled with PolarSSL and it works like a charm.

Cheers
