I just upgraded my Viscosity installation to 1.5.0.1258 - and now it fails to start. The event log shows the following two messages each time I attempt to start the application (unfortunately in German):

Hi Andreas,

Unfortunately this is an extremely generic error and means that something is wrong with either your .NET installation or similar under Windows. There are a few work around we can try, but first we need some more information about your computer:

Do you use a desktop, laptop, or tablet PC?
Does your computer have any form of touch screen device?
Does your computer have any form of touchpad (instead of a mouse)?
Are all your graphics drivers and Windows Update up to date?

Regards,
Eric

I use a laptop computer (Dell Latitude E7440) without touch screen. It has a touch pad and a track point built-in and I was using an additional USB mouse. Graphics drivers and Windows are up to date. Windows edition (besides the version mentioned in the title) is Professional. If I can help with any other additional information or test of something, let me know.

Hi Andreas,

We've seen a similar crash to this before, but not related to Viscosity. Please try the following:

Exit Viscosity
Go to start, type in Services and select "View Local Services"
Find the "Touch Keyboard and Handwriting Panel Service".
Right click it and select Properties.
Change startup type to Disabled.
Click OK then restart your PC.

Hopefully this will resolve the issue.

If it does not, you will need to try reinstalling .NET. You can download and install it from here - http://www.microsoft.com/en-au/download ... x?id=40779

Ensure you restart your computer immediately after running the .NET installer.

Let us know how you go.

Eric

Unfortulately no luck so far.

Disabling the service you mentioned did not help - it was not running before anyway. The .NET framework is part of the Windows installation in Win 8 and cannot be reinstalled with the installer you linked. Alternatively, I tried both Microsoft's .NET Framework Repair Tool and running "DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth" from an elevated command line followed by a reboot. Also uninstalling Viscosity and reinstalling it did not change anything.

Could you provide a link to the previous version's installer, so I can try if that still works (for the time being)?

Best regards,
Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Please contact us via email and we can send you a link to a previous version of Viscosity and how instructions on how to downgrade.

Hi TrendX,

win-sys is considered a dangerous option as it can be combined with OpenVPN to cause some serious damage to a machine. If you do require win-sys to be defined, please go to the Advanced tab and tick the Allow unsafe commands option.

If you do not require the win-sys command, please edit you connection, go the Advanced tab and delete the line beginning with win-sys.
