Hey guys, I’m on Mountain Lion using Viscosity 1.4.1, and well, Apply DNS settings simultaneously apparently does nothing. Whenever I connect to my VPN, I have to go into System Preferences and manually add the DNS settings there, or I can’t browse the internet. Now, before you’re like “well, why don’t you just leave the DNS settings in there?” I would, but the University I attend uses its own DNS servers to route you to the login page, and if I use my DNS settings, I can’t log in.
I know, I know, it’s a matter of mere convenience and an extra 10 seconds here or there, but given that there’s an option (albeit apparently non-functional presently) that would save me some time, I’d like to use it.
It doesn’t sound like the Apply DNS Settings Simultaneously option is what you are after here? It means that the DNS servers specified for the VPN connection will only be used for any domains also specified by the VPN connection. If this is in fact what you want, make sure that the necessary domains have been added to the Domains field (or are being pushed by the OpenVPN server). Without any domains listed the option will appear to have no effect.
I also recommend you update to version 1.4.2, as it includes a number of fixes and enhancements.
Well. That’s just user error then and I’m perfectly okay with being an idiot. Thanks for your help, I’ll toy around with it and see if I can make it bend to my will.
