I have just updated to version 1.11.5 and now when I try to connect I get the error message “The OpenVPN subsystem could not be started.” in the log and the session disconnects immediately. I can’t find anything in the release notes that might explain this. Any ideas?
Hi LewisJames,
Please ensure your copy of macOS is up-to-date. Early versions of macOS 13 may have trouble with some of the new security features Viscosity 1.11.5 uses, however Apple fixed this in a later update. If you’re unsure of what version of macOS you’re running, or unsure how to update, please see Apple’s documentation at:
https://support.apple.com/en-au/108382
Another common cause for OpenVPN failing to start is endpoint security software (such as antivirus software, security and filtering tools, and endpoint management software) blocking the OpenVPN process from starting. If you have any such software installed please ensure that it’s not blocking Viscosity or any process it’s trying to run, or temporarily try uninstalling it to see if the problem persists.
Cheers,
James
Thanks James,
Updating to the latest version of macOs solved the problem.
