Viewing the Connection Log

If you are unable to connect your VPN connection, your VPN connection drops out, or you are encountering a problem, you should be able to find the reason contained in the connection log.

Tip

The connection log contains information for a VPN connection, including extra details about your connection, server information, warning messages, error messages, and troubleshooting suggestions.

Info

There are several common error messages you may encounter in the log. These can be found in the Common OpenVPN Errors Category.

You can view the connection log in Viscosity like so:

  1. Go to the Viscosity menu and open the Details window.
  2. Make sure the correct connection is selected in the connection menu to the top-left corner of the window.
  3. Click on the Log button. This is the third button from the left.

  4. You can resize the window to get a better view of the log. Standard copy/paste/select-all shortcuts can be used to copy parts of the log to support staff if required.
